Giants coach Ben McAdoo: No regrets about Eli Manning benching

Giants coach Ben McAdoo insists he has no regrets about how the benching of Eli Manning was handled and he’s “on the same page” as team co-owner John Mara.

Detroit began this season 3-1 but have lost their last two games — both critical to the playoff race — without ever holding a lead. The Lions have also had issues getting the right number of players on the field, putting 10 men on defense for a Minnesota Vikings touchdown on Thanksgiving and nine men on a critical third down in a loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Garoppolo again showed that he could be the answer for the 49ers (3-10) at quarterback, going 20 of 33 in his second start for the team. Acquired before the trade deadline from New England, Garoppolo threw for 293 yards in his debut with the team last week to help the 49ers to a 15-14 win at Chicago.

DeAndre Hopkins had 149 yards receiving and two touchdowns, but lost a fumble in the fourth quarter with the Texans down by 7 . San Francisco added 41-yard field goal after that to secure the victory.

T.J. Yates threw for 175 yards and two touchdowns after Tom Savage left with a concussion in the second quarter. Texans (4-9) lost their third straight and sixth in seven games.

Jim Caldwell’s contract contains a guarantee for 2018 only, with the Lions having the option to extend the deal, a source confirmed to ESPN.

Caldwell’s job was in question at the end of the 2016 season, when the Lions lost three straight games to close the regular season, but still made the playoffs because Washington lost in Week 17. The Lions were then blown out by the Seattle Seahawks in the wild-card round.panthers_022
